I was saddened to read of the passing of Mike. Mike was a low key guy at Park. What set him apart from the rest was his black motorcycle jacket. Mike did like his beer and we shared a few PBR's at the likes of THe Brat Stop, Earl's Club and the Thirsty I, before he went into the US Army. Mike was a draftee and entered the Army late in 1966. I believe he did his basic training at Ft Leonardwood, MO, as well as his ATI schooling in the Engineer Corps(building and construction). After finishing his school he was assigned to one of the bases in Germany. It was Germany part -in-part because Mike was married.

In mid 1967 his unit was sent to Egypt under a State Department program to repair bridges in the Sinai Desert. Mike was wakened one morning by the sound of gun fire. He knew he wasn't in Vietnam, but his unit was in a war. There was a tank battle going on between Isreal and Egypt. Mike and his fellow GI's were in the middle of the Six Day/ June War of 1967. They had to leave the country in a big hurry and leave their heavy equipment where it sat.

Mike worked with my father at Greene Mfg.. Mike servesd an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker and worked there for over twenty years until the company closed its doors in the late 1980's. I saw Mike only a few times since HS, once was at his father's bar, Paul's Office, which was on Junction Avenue in Uptown. Mike was agood guy and will be missed.........
