Robert Vasy

MADISON - The full, active and vibrant life of Robert S. Vasy, age 58, ended unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, after he suffered a heart attack, in Madison. He was a physically fit, funny and fun-loving man who had many friends. The son of Stephen and Marjorie Vasy, was born on June 13, 1947, in Racine. He married the love of his life, Tina Frailey, on the blue moon of July 31, 2004, in Madison. Bob was a graduate of Washington Park High School in Racine and attended the University of Wisconsin-Extension there, before moving to Madison in 1967. He earned a degree in economics from UW-Madison in 1969, and later earned a degree in graphic design at MATC. He was a graphic designer for the Wisconsin Alumni Association and formerly was a designer at Madison Newspapers Inc., Madison Repertory Theatre and Wisconsin Public Television. Before that, he was a foreman at Future Foam, Middleton, and an orderly at the former Lakeshore mental health facility, Madison. Bob also hosted "Still Out to Lunch," a music show during the early years of WORT radio, under the name of Jim Shorts. He saw much of the world, bicycling through Europe and traveling with his longtime friend, John Ochsner, through Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nepal. He loved Seattle, the start of his honeymoon with Tina, which also included a fun-filled stay in a treehouse at the base of Mount Ranier. Friends were a priority. He loved going to breakfast with old and new friends on Saturdays, a routine for many years. He was great at making people laugh and telling jokes, always finding humor in the moment. He and Tina biked to work almost every day, throughout the year. He taught Tina how to cross country ski, and they both were able to make tracks this season. Bob also loved reading and was a regular at the Pinney Branch Library. Survivors include his wife, whom he lovingly called "T-rocket!;" his mother, Marjorie (VanBussum) Vasy, Racine; his sister, Linda (Michael) Roberts, Milwaukee; parents-in-law Frank and Doris Frailey, Swiftwater, Pa.; sister and brothers-in-law, Tammy and Geoff Shearer, Camp Hill, Pa., John DalBesio, Racine; nieces, Melinda and Allegra Roberts, and Myla and Stephani DalBesio; nephew, Joe Roberts; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
