RACINE - Donald F. 'Don' Kern, 57, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his residence. Don was born in Racine August 3, 1947, son of the late Frank and Marjorie R. (nee: Meisner) Kern. On October 17, 1970, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Ruth A. Beres. Don graduated from Washington Park High School "Class of 1965." During the Vietnam War, he served in the United States Navy. Don was a Journeyman Electrician and retired from Acme Die Casting. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 10301 and the Racine Moose Lodge. He also volunteered for the Precious Hearts at All Saints Healthcare. Don was an avid Packer and NASCAR fan, who also enjoyed woodworking. Above all, Don was devoted to his family and will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his two children, Dawn Kern of Racine, Tony Kern of Janesville; his brother, David Kern of Wauwatosa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frances (James) Gigl of Waterford, Leona (Dennis) Spring, James A. Beres, all of Racine, Lawrence (Barbara) Beres of Howell, Mich.; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, Saturday, May 7, 2005, 10 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.
